Microsoft Office 2019 is the latest version of Office suite available for Windows and Mac. First released in 2018, this program offers a new set of features that are not present in its predecessors, including Office 2016 and earlier versions. It also has some features that Microsoft 365 users cannot enjoy.
Despite the new features, Office 2019 brings the same package as Microsoft Office 2016 and older editions, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Project, Publisher, Access, and Visio. With support for 102 different languages, this Office program is useful to get things done.
Microsoft Office 2019 Features and Highlights
As the successor to Office 2016, the current version of Microsoft highlights new features, tweaks, and changes. Basically many of the features were already available in Office 365, but few of them are not offered in the cloud-based service. Take a closer look at Office 2019 features below.
1. Built-in Microsoft Translator
Translating a specific word, phrase, or whole text from Word, Excel, or PowerPoint makes simple with integrated Microsoft Translator. This new feature is embedded in the Review tab of each program, so accessing this feature is super easy.
Microsoft Translator itself has been around for a while but as a standalone program. With it integrated into Office brings exciting changes and doubles the convenience. It may not deliver a perfect translation but it can give a huge help when needed.
2. LaTex Equation in Word
Typing equations can be daunting but when you use the right tool, it can be easier and faster. LaTex is a new feature embedded in Word 2019 that enables you to create equations in LaTex format. It supports major common mathematical keywords for professional equations.
A wide range of expressions can be built-up using this feature, such as vectors, boxed formula, brackets, and matrix. How to use this feature is quite simple. Find it under the Design tab and click LaTex. As an alternative, you may press ALT and = on your keyboard.
3. Morph in PowerPoint
PowerPoint 2019 is on another level. Featuring a new transition referred to as Morph, your audience will enjoy smooth movement between slides in a presentation. This is a great way to create animation but PowerPoint makes it easier for you.
To use this transition, you will have to duplicate the slide. On the duplicated slide, move or resize the object and click Transitions, choose morph. This action will create a smooth movement from the original to duplicated slide.
4. Zoom Navigation in PowerPoint
Microsoft Office 2019 users can experience better navigation during a presentation with Zoom. This new feature allows you to bounce from one slide to another rather than flowing slide-by-slide as a typical PowerPoint presentation.
Using this feature proves to be fun. You will have a single page with thumbnails of all slides. If you want to go to a specific slide, simply click it and you will be taken to a desired slide. This is a nice approach to improve engagement with your audience.
5. New Functions in Excel
The new version of Excel comes with 6 new functions including SWITCH, CONCAT, MAXIFS, IFS, MINIFS, and TEXTJOIN. All of these functions improve Excel usability, allowing you to get spreadsheet done in a better way.
Microsoft Office 2019 VS Microsoft 365
Aside from Office 2019, Microsoft released another suite called Microsoft 365. Both suites have many similarities in features so it leads to confusion among users. Despite the similarities, Office 2019 and Office 365 have some major differences.
Office 2019 is a one-time purchase program, which means you will not receive feature updates after purchasing it. Although it still comes with security updates, it is less likely to see new tools added in the future.
Meanwhile, Microsoft 356 is a subscription-based cloud service to Office programs, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. It offers simple and fast collaborative tools presented by Microsoft Cloud. Unlike Office 2019 that doesn’t have functionality updates, Microsoft 365 promises up-to-date features.
Check the list below for further differences between Office 2019 and Microsoft 365:
1. Installation
Being a one-time purchase program, Office 2019 can only be installed once on a Windows PC or Mac. This means you cannot share the application with other users on other computer. In contrast, Microsoft 365 can be installed on all devices and used collaboratively. It also allows you to share subscription.
2. Online Storage
All documents created using Office 2019 can be stored either in local drive or OneDrive so you can share files with anyone. Simply sign in to your OneDrive account to keep your documents secure and easy to access.
Microsoft 365 users can securely store files in the cloud only. Once saved to OneDrive, your files can be accessed from any devices. Using this program, you will get 1TB of cloud storage per user and it supports up to 6 users (only for Family plan).
3. Technical Support
When you are using Office 2019, initial technical support is provided for installing only. This means any technical issue after installation is no longer supported by the developer.
In contrast, Microsoft 365 allows users to contact customer service without additional charge for technical, subscription, or billing support. It offers convenience just in case users find issues with their cloud service.
All in all, getting things done with Microsoft Office 2019 comes faster and simpler. Thanks to a bunch of features packed in this program that are not available in earlier versions. It can also be a great alternative for users who are not ready for subscription-based cloud service.
